S H A D O W L A N D by Pilobolus
Perth, Regal Theatre
REVIEW by JANELLE VACCARO & OLIVIA OSTASZEWSKYJ
The all American cast of Pilobolus dance troupe deliver yet another seamless performance in Shadowland. Conceived by a team of acclaimed creatives, the brilliant fusion of live theatre, dance and shadow art creates a surreal world that has mesmerised over half a million people across the globe.
In this dream world where anything is possible and morphing from one place, person & predicament to another is instant thanks to the stunning use of silhouetted screens, the questions of identity and belonging meet when a young girl must face ‘the beast within’. There are many highlights on her journey including drifting along an outback road with man and his best friend, a wild goose chase through a culinary labyrinth and feats of pure male strength.
The constantly changing landscape is sure to score points with the impatient Instagram generation.
This constantly moving and entertaining voyage into the imagination is a unique cinematic experience of theatre meets live music video. Inspiring and impressive with its flawless timing and seamless transitions across multiple mediums, the mind boggles to imagine the hours invested in such an impeccably rehearsed performance.
Departing their stint at the Regal Theatre in Perth, Shadowland continues to tour Australia throughout August & September.
