Five-Part Australian Amazon Original Documentary Series

Prime Video announced this week at the Prime Video Showcase: An Evening with our Australian Producers event, that the five-part Australian Amazon Original documentary series Dance Life will launch exclusively on Prime Video in Australia in 2023. Produced by Amazon Studios, EQMedia, Biscuit Tin Productions, and Creative Bubble Productions, the series will be available exclusively on Prime Video in over 240 countries and territories worldwide.

Dance Life – the series – gives audiences a deeply personal look at the full-time dance students of Sydney’s Brent Street who face the pressure and reward of the cut-throat full-time performing arts course. The series follows a group of students who have given up everything to navigate their dream of becoming professional dancers and performers. The goal of a student at Brent Street is clear: Put in the hours, push yourself beyond anywhere you have been, learn the ropes of being a professional performer, and focus on perfection. Then be “seen” by all the right agents and producers and your path is set. But only a small minority will fully realise dance stardom. To achieve that, they must prove to Brent Street owner Lucas Newland and head choreographer Cassie Bartho that they have what it takes to make the Jazz One elite group, and then work harder than they have ever worked for a year to be cast in the lead roles at the all-important Graduation showcase.

“Prime Video is committed to supporting diverse Australian content and bringing our customers stories not previously explored,” said Tyler Bern, head of content, Prime Video Australia, New Zealand, and Canada. “Dance Life is another fascinating Australian series, taking us inside the world of would-be professional dancers as they face the highest stakes moments of their dance careers to date. The show is engaging, emotional, and entertaining throughout, as we become immersed in a world that very few would ever have been exposed to.”

EQ Media executive producer David Alrich said: “There is so much incredible Australian content being created at the moment and we’re thrilled that this documentary will be enjoyed by the Prime Video customers. We felt such an obligation to do justice to the stories of these incredibly talented performers and showcase not only their devotion to their craft, but also the amazing emotional journey they go on in their quest to fulfil their dreams.”

Biscuit Tin Productions creator and director Luke Cornish added:  “Dance Life explores how an individual’s past, both positive and negative, can shape their future. The five-part series explores how a person’s character can pave a path to success, or just as equally, undermine opportunity—and in some cases, destroy it. We’ve seen how these inspiring and aspiring professional dancers handle the pressure, rejection, injuries and success that fill their make-or-break year. It’s going to be an emotional ride!”

Dance Life – the series – is produced by Amazon Studios in collaboration with EQMedia, Biscuit Tin Productions, and Creative Bubble Productions. It’s created and produced by Jade Barnes and Luke Cornish. Cornish also writes and directs. Executive producers are Shahn Devendran, Jade Barnes, Luke Cornish, David Alrich, and Brendan Dahill.
