Community Participation Registrations Now Open

Want to become part of Melbourne City Ballet’s upcoming production of Carmen?

Passion and power collide as Melbourne City Ballet presents Carmen, touring May 25 – August 5.

The passion will spread far and wide when Melbourne City Ballet tours Carmen in 2018. Registrations are now open online for our community participation and workshops, suitable for those between the ages of 8 – 18 years.

Following on from their hugely successful National tour of A Midsummer Night’s Dream in 2017, audiences across the country will be treated to Melbourne City Ballet’s signature ballets.

The splendor of Carmen is in the passionate pas de deux’s and stirring group numbers, so whether it’s the seductive factory workers that lure you in or the strutting bullfighters that set your hearts aflutter, Melbourne City Ballet’s Carmen is a vibrant and bold production that from the very first overture will have audiences en garde!

Don José is called upon to return home to marry childhood sweetheart Micaela. However, a chance encounter with the enchanting gypsy girl Carmen, leads them both into a tumultuous relationship of passion and destruction. A fiery, free spirited woman, Carmen’s fate is written in the cards but she refuses to be tamed by any man.

Melbourne City Ballet will provide opportunities for young dancers seeking to experience being a part of a live ballet production.

Young dancers, aged 8 -18 years, across the country will have the opportunity to register to be a part of the magic of this wonderful production, representing their communities onstage with the company.

There are various roles that need to be filled for this production. Melbourne City Ballet will be predominately looking for dancers, both boys and girls, aged between 8 and 18 years old. Basic ballet skills and knowledge are required.

Dancers will learn the choreography within the workshop. Those who are successful will be notified at the end of the workshop and will be given more detailed information about the show.

Auditions will include participation in our community workshops which are $10 per head.

Can’t find your local theatre for this season of Carmen? Don’t worry, as Melbourne City Ballet will also be looking for local dancers to join them on stage later in the year when they tour Madame Butterfly.
