Pole Dance for a Difference

Pole Dancers Raise Money For Spinal Cord Injuries

Enmore Theatre | Feb 11

An Event Unlike Anything Before!
Australia’s best pole dancers will be swinging in to Dance For A Difference at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on 11th February 2018, to raise money for Spinal Research with all profits going to SpinalCure Australia and research aiming to reverse the paralysing effects of spinal cord injuries.
Raising funds for a recently discovered treatment for spinal cord injury, which offers unprecedented benefits, the show will feature some of the best Australian pole superstars including Allegra King, Adam Lim, Amy Hazel, Andrea Ryff, Bethany Finlay, Caroline Cascapstar, Coco and Chilli Rox.
Pole dance instructors with a combined 20 years teaching and performing experience between them, Chilli Rox and Dallas Dee, decided to create the event that would not only showcase Australia’s best pole dances but also raise money for SpinalCure Australia and the possibility for recovery in injuries previously thought incurable.
Dance For A Difference is inspired by the true story of pole and aerial artist Jason Lam. While he was aerial training, Lam’s equipment failed and he fell badly, injuring his spinal cord. Now living life in a wheelchair, Jason has inspired the aerial and dance community with his unwavering positivity, referring to himself as a ‘power-plegic’ instead of a paraplegic.
“I remember having a particularly bad day and I saw a Facebook post from Jason saying that he had spilt coffee on himself,” said Chilli.
“He then went on to say how excited he was that he had managed to get himself changed and back in his wheelchair all by himself. It really put things into perspective for me. Here was someone dealing with an extreme change to his life and I was being dramatic over nothing.
“I wrote to Jason and asked what I could do to help. He said that people had been so generous to him that he didn’t want to take any money and suggested I could do something to raise money for spinal injury research, and that’s how Dance for a Difference came about”, Chilli said.
Attendees of the event will have access to shopping before the event, with all of the most loved pole and aerial brands on hand with stalls in the lobby. There will also be the chance to interact with the show’s featured pole stars, with shoe signings, photo opportunities and plenty of other fun surprises including a not-to-be missed raffle.
SpinalCure Australia was founded in 1994 with the sole aim of finding a cure for spinal cord injury through the promotion and funding of medical research. Twenty years ago many still believed that cure to be an impossible dream. The advances resulting from two decades of research have brought us to a time when a solution to this devastating condition is accepted as inevitable.
