Dancers, We Want to Hear From You!

National Professional Dance Survey

#LoveTheDancers

Recently MEAA launched the National Professional Dance Survey on pay and conditions, and we want you to take part!

Dancers are some of the most underpaid workers in Australia, and are regularly asked to work for free.

You may remember dancers raising these issues with a Logies performance in 2012; a popular music video in 2014; or the AFL half-time show in 2020.

This isn’t exclusive to big name productions or gigs for celebrities.

Everyday we see job advertisements asking professional dancers and choreographers to volunteer for ‘exposure’, or receive token payments that are well below minimum wage. But exposure doesn’t pay the bills!

We need to take the temperature of Australia’s dance industry.

The survey covers all aspects of dance as a legitimate career, from how long you’ve been in the industry and the styles you specialise in, to how you work out your rate, and a chance to tell us any health and safety horror stories.

It takes no longer than 3 minutes to complete.

We want to hear from dancers, dance teachers, choreographers, and any one else that has chosen work in the dance industry as their career path.

Help us fight for the minimum wages and conditions that all dancers deserve!

And if you’ve already completed it – share it with a friend!
