When Art Inspires Technology, Technology Completes Art

As we prepare to welcome a new season of Sydney Dance Company’s ab [intra] in 2022, LG SIGNATURE has joined forces with Australia’s leading contemporary dance company as Presenting Partner. Just as LG SIGNATURE does with innovative and artistically inspired products, Sydney Dance Company’s dancers strive for perfection in everything they do whether it’s creating a new performance or preparing for their next big show.

The partnership will see LG SIGNATURE present Sydney Dance Company’s acclaimed work ab [intra] in June, as well as continue to support the Company’s popular online livestreamed dance classes. And, in acknowledgment of their shared commitment to innovation, the brands have recently collaborated on a creative piece that merges masterful movement with the fascinating flexibility of the new LG SIGNATURE Rollable OLED TV.

ab [intra]

Meaning ‘from within’ in Latin, it is more than an external expression of art, rather a journey through the intensity of human existence that will command your attention. The dancers will be accompanied by music that fuses lush cello with ambient electronica to enhance the raw and emotional performance exploring our primal instincts, impulses and responses.

“There is a wonderful synergy and connection between the two brands that makes it feel so right and exciting for us,” says Rafael Bonachela, Sydney Dance Company’s Artistic Director. “The LG SIGNATURE products are incredibly advanced in technology and design – they are always surprising you. And contemporary dance as an art form is about pushing the boundaries … it’s about what’s happening now and in the future. We are both constantly striving to inspire, move and uplift our audiences.”

As we emerge from more than two years of profound changes in what we perceived as ‘normal’, and a deep understanding of ourselves to rediscover good in our lives, LG SIGNATURE hopes that crafting more avenues for Australians to be immersed creatively will help not only to support the arts and cultural industry, but the broader community as well.

With a philosophy built around the harmony of art and technology, LG SIGNATURE is “passionate about fuelling industry with enhanced creativity,” explains LG Electronics Australia marketing director Gemma Lemieux. “And after the devastating impact of the pandemic across the last two years, LG is even more committed to supporting the Australian arts community.” Lemieux adds

When the pandemic hit, Sydney Dance Company “pirouetted” its offering into an online teaching platform, offering live-streamed and on-demand classes to aspiring and advanced Australian dancers. “That’s how we kept our dancers sane, engaged and connected – and employed,” explains Bonachela. “LG SIGNATURE was wonderful in supporting us with that, and joining us in that journey.”

Now, as restrictions ease, LG SIGNATURE is again by the company’s side as they make their return to the stage. After touring France in March and April, Sydney Dance Company will come home to the Roslyn Packer Theatre in Walsh Bay for an encore season of Bonachela’s iconic work ab [intra] in June, presented by LG SIGNATURE.

“Dance is an art form that is alive, so inevitably, your lived experience, your world-view, how you feel will have an impact,” explains Bonachela. “There’s so much more I believe that’s going to go into the work because of what we have lived.”

In the meantime, you’ll get to see excerpts of ab [intra]’s performance as the Sydney Dance Company and LG SIGNATURE creative piece rolls out across online and social media. In the works, three dancers will perform sections of ab [intra] in conversation with the extraordinary design of the rollable TV.

“Our partnership with Sydney Dance Company is a true reflection of the LG SIGNATURE core philosophy: art inspires technology, technology completes art and the joy that can be experienced through art, creativity and connection,” Lemieux says. “As we have faced many months without these creative outlets during the pandemic, our partnership embodies how technology and art can fuse together to not only support the industry, but tap into creativity in a way that offers Australians unique experiences for new forms of connection.”

These past few years have shown us what the power of unity can do in combating a common problem. And this effortless flow of ideas and inspired vision has only helped create something new, now seen with our new piece of content. We are so proud that together with Sydney Dance Company, we have been able to collaborate and combine both companys’ strengths to achieve a unified purpose of redefining experiences for Australians.
