Melbourne Ballet Company's 10th year

Melbourne Ballet Company dancers Alexander Baden Bryce & Johanna Lee.

Being & Time

Melbourne Ballet Company returns to the Hawthorn Arts Centre on 29-31 March 2017 to present an exhilarating contemporary ballet, Being & Time, marking the company’s ten year anniversary.
Company Director Simon Hoy has choreographed Being & Time with internationally acclaimed dance makers Tim Podesta (South African Ballet Theatre, Projection Dance) and Lucas Jervies (Australian Ballet, Scapino Ballet, Sydney Dance Company).
The 3 choreographers take inspiration from German philosopher Heidegger’s views on existentialism, exploring their own behaviours and emotions in Being & Time.
Principal dancers will include Johanna Lee & Alexander Baden Bryce. Johanna Lee has danced with the company since 2012. Prior to this, Johanna danced with Sydney Dance Company and has performed many roles including Connor Dowling’s duo Dreamt I was a Real Boy at the Sydney Opera House and Bonachela’s 360 as part of the Sydney Festival First Night (which also featured on the hit TV series So You Think You Can Dance). Alexander Baden Bryce has been a member since 2009 and prior to this was awarded a scholarship to Taipei International Dance Elite Academy in Taiwan.
Melbourne Ballet Company has grown to become one of Australia’s most respected dance companies and in 2017 celebrates its 10th anniversary. In 2017 they will tour Australia and New Zealand to showcase their critically acclaimed programs – including Guernica and Archè, both of which graced the Hawthorn Arts Centre stage in 2016. The Company consists of nine professional dancers who have trained with some of the world’s most renowned companies including The Australian Ballet, La Scala Milan and The Paris Opera Ballet. Being & Time is the company’s sixth production at the Hawthorn Arts Centre.
