TODD DOES PETER (ALLEN) AGAIN

You may have caught Todd McKenney shaking this thing on Sunday night during Dancing With The Stars to promote the current season of ‘The Boy From Oz’. Being a fan of the version that starred Hugh Jackman I wasn’t that impressed with the production value of the number including the costumes and staging. The energy and ability of the dancers was very mixed, Todd really didn’t give it his all and overall I thought it was a slightly tacky performance. After bringing this up in conversation with a few colleagues and friends I realised that I was not alone in this opinion. It is quite hard to stage a great production on Dancing With The Stars. Look at the difference between Kylie’s performance on Hey Hey compared to DWTS.
The musical is being presented by The Production Company at the State Theatre.
It opened yesterday and plays until Sunday.
Directed by Nancye Hayes, the show stars McKenney in the lead role alongside Christen O’Leary, Fem Belling, David Harris and Robyn Arthur.
Notes for The Boy From Oz read: “This is the dazzling, funny and touching story of the great Australian entertainer Peter Allen, from his humble beginnings to his meteoric rise to fame as an international star. Singing in country pubs from age 11, Peter Allen survived family tragedy to become a local TV star at age 16. Discovered by Judy Garland, he married her daughter Liza Minnelli and went on to become a beloved performer and an Oscar-winning songwriter.”
