STRATAGEM – Athletic, Dynamic, Dance

STRATAGEM -noun
1. a plan, scheme, or trick for surprising or deceiving an enemy.
2. any artifice, ruse, or trick devised or used to attain a goal or to gain an advantage over an adversary or competitor.

Australia’s fast-rising choreographic talent Paul Malek combines a powerful cast with “athletic” and “combat” inspired movement to present Collaboration the Project’s latest work, STRATAGEM. The show opens February 17th at Theatreworks in St Kilda.
STRATAGEM: the story of 4 regular people who delve into a virtual reality game show where they battle each off for national glory. As the game progresses however the computer programs framework begins to crack, allowing the rules to bend and be broken. In the chaos that surrounds them only one thing is on their minds… “How do I get out of this alive?”
The electrifying cast includes: Kim Adam, Monique Dawes, Trent Harlow, David Harrison, Tyler Hawkins, Lauree Malek, Alya Manzart and Ashleigh Perrie. STRATAGEM will also feature a soundtrack composed specifically for the show by electro-producer Peter Nigido.
Founded in June 2008 by Paul Malek & Kim Adam, Collaboration The Project quickly moved to the forefront in providing a professional performance platform for local dancers. Over the past two years Paul Malek has Directed, Choreographed and Produced Parkland Avenue, Down The Rabbit Hole, An Evolution Of Love, Beat N Move Euphoric, Inhale The Showcase, and Directed Immersed Melbourne Dance Industry Night with Rhonda Burchmore. Malek also Produced 2nd Toe Dance Collective’s Something Blew – A Triple Bill. Last October the company premiered its newest work Climax which left audiences speechless, solidifying the company’s reputation as one of Melbourne’s leading independent contemporary dance companies.
Paul Malek developed a 12 level Jazz syllabus for Australian Teachers of Dancing, which is now taught in schools throughout Australia, Asia, United Kingdom and Norway. His Choreography was also featured on Channel 10’s So You Think You Can Dance. Collaboration The Project were recipients of three awards at Short + Sweet Dance Melbourne 2010 for Collection of Forgotten Treasures (Best Choreography, Peoples Choice and Best Female Dancer – Ashleigh Perrie who features in this production).
STRATAGEM is their 6th major installment.
