Legs on the Wall Premieres New Performance Endling for Vivid Sydney 2025

Endling

Vivid Sydney 2025

This winter, acclaimed physical theatre company Legs On The Wall will premiere ENDLING, a new solo work commissioned for Vivid Sydney 2025. Running nightly from 23 May to 14 June (6pm–11pm) on Walumil Lawns, Barangaroo Reserve, the free installation performance will unfold as part of Vivid Ideas program on the Light Walk.

Alone in a display case, the last human—our Endling—enacts their final chapter.

Through a striking blend of confined aerial performance, physical theatre, sound and large-scale projection, ENDLING invites audiences to contemplate the fragility of human existence, our environmental legacy, and the existential question: can we change our fate, or are we the architects of our own extinction?

Director and creator Joshua Thomson describes the work as “a continuation of Legs’ commitment to bold physical storytelling that tackles urgent questions about our future. In ENDLING, we confront the scarcity of what we once took for granted—our presence, our planet, and each other.”

At once moving and provocative, the 5-hour, continuously repeating performance takes place every night of the festival and situates the human body at the heart of a speculative museum exhibit. Its looping structure offers audiences a unique experience each time they encounter it—whether in passing or for prolonged reflection.

ENDLING is part of the expanded Vivid Ideas offering on the Light Walk and amongst installations and projections in Barangaroo. It integrates powerful storytelling and conceptual depth into the festival’s signature after-dark experience.
