This December the 10th Annual Australian Cabaret Showcase is set to introduce a new line up of talent across Australia. The annual event provides a platform for cabaret and musical theatre performers to showcase their talent in front of an audience and before a panel of judges, including some of Australia’s leading entertainers and industry professionals. Entries are now open for the much-anticipated event, with the winner being given the opportunity to further their career in the performing arts industry.
The Australian Cabaret Showcase has built a reputation for the high standard of its performers and as a springboard into Australia’s professional entertainment industry. Past winners have gone on to become established professional entertainers on both stage and screen and include James Millar, Nick Christo, Elenoa Rokobaro, Tom Sharah and Sheridan Harbridge.
This year’s winner will receive an incredible prize package including an invitation to perform at the prestigious annual New York Musical Theatre Festival as well as five Festivals in Australia (with flights and accommodation provided), as well as a $1000 cash prize to jumpstart their career. The winner will also receive a photographic and design package courtesy of Blueprint Studios, as well as publicity for their tour courtesy of IP Publicity.
Heats will begin in Noosa for the first time this year, giving Queensland residents an opportunity to take part in the event. The heats will then travel to Melbourne and Sydney with the winners from all heats being flown to Sydney to take part in the Grand Final, which will be held on Saturday 22nd December at acclaimed live music venue The Basement. Each contestant is asked to prepare an eight minute performance with interlinking dialogue.
Guest judges this year include legendary Australian entertainer and Patron of the Showcase David Campbell, Noosa Long Weekend Festival Artistic Director Ian Mackellar, Melbourne Cabaret Festival Artistic Directors Neville Sice and David Read, Ballarat Cabaret Festival Director Graeme Russell and acclaimed industry guests including Lisa Campbell, Chloe Dallimore, Margi De Ferranti, Les Solomon and Phil Scott.

Executive Producer Jeremy Youett said, “Providing new talent the opportunity to perform and be discovered by the Australian industry is something I strongly believe in and the continued support of some of the country’s greatest Music Festivals is an integral part of the event. This year’s winner will receive the biggest prize package we’ve ever been able to offer. The Showcase has moved from strength to strength and I’m excited to be able to share this year’s winner not only with Australian audiences, but also with the Broadway community for the first time!”
This year’s competition is open to performers 18+ but places are limited.
